About Streatham

Streatham is considered by its fans to be the beating heart of South West London with its plentiful supply of buzzing bars and restaurants and bustling shops and markets.

With easy access to Streatham Common’s woodland, grassland, meadows and streams , locals enjoy outdoor life all year round. The Rookery is a favourite destination ; a Grade II Listed Historic Garden,  it contains a cascade of ornamental ponds, planted herbaceous and wildflower beds, including an Old English Garden and a White Garden. Nearby is a quaint café – a popular meeting place.

Meanwhile, indoor activity is amply catered for by the Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre, home to a huge ice rink, a six-lane swimming pool, a sports hall and gym. And beyond the lively bars and restaurants, the jazz venue Hideaway continues Streatham’s long entertainment tradition, featuring jazz, funk, soul and swing music as well as stand-up comedy nights. And for those who want to get into town for either work or play, London Victoria with all of its connections is only 21 minutes away.

Things to do

Streatham is a great place to shop and eat out. Whilst all the major supermarkets have a presence, including Sainsbury’s, Tesco and M&S, there are also smaller farmer’s markets around Streatham Green and Streatham Common.

When it comes to eating and drinking, Streatham is spoilt for choice with award winning cafés, cosy pubs, international restaurants, hipster bars and even craft beer shops to keep the neighbours fed and watered.

Streatham has an extensive collection of high performing schools making the area very popular with families. Some of the best options are outlined below, along with their Ofsted ratings.

Primary : St Leonard’s (outstanding), St Andrew’s (outstanding) and Immanuel & St Andrew’s (outstanding)

Secondary : Bishop Thomas Grant School (outstanding)

Bus: Streatham is well-served by several bus routes that connect to Central London and neighbouring areas such as Balham, Croydon and Kingston.

Train:  With three stations (Streatham, Streatham Common and Streatham Hill) the area has direct links to several major central London stations including Victoria, London Bridge, Blackfriars and St Pancras.

Cycling : Cycling is an increasingly popular way to get around – not just because of the common, but also because TFL are planning major changes in order to benefit local cyclists and pedestrians.

Enjoy Streatham Common : The common’s open landscape and blooming flowerbeds make it a great picnic spot. Take the family and enjoy the playground, café and paddling pool.

Take a trip to the Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre : The Centre boasts a 25m long pool, and Olympic-sized ice-skating rink as well as a gym, yoga studio and café.

Hit the Go-Karting Track : Just a short walk from Streatham Vale find 400 metres of track and space for up to 20 karts.

Discover Streatham Green Artisan’s Market : Streatham’s artisan market is open every Sunday outside The Manor Arms. This is a charming farmer’s market where vendors sell fresh produce and handmade products like cheese, bread and cakes.
